1.     What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse osmosis is the process of forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane that has the ability to remove and reject a wide spectrum of impurities and contaminates. The contaminates are then rinsed down your drain and the purified water is stored in a pressurized tank for your use.

 2.     Do I need reverse osmosis?
Water doesn’t have to taste or smell bad to contain harmful contaminents and toxic chemicals.  Water treatment facilities are only geared toward treatment to prevent waterborne diseases from bacteria.  The chlorine added to your water by the city to treat it can actually react with organic matter in your water to form toxic, carcinogenic organic compounds known as Trihalomethanes (THM’s).  A recent study on water by environmentalists revealed over 700 potential hazardous chemicals in the U.S. water supply.

3.     Will any type of water filter work?
Water filters are good at filtering out a limited amount of chemicals, sediment, and heavy metals from your water.  Most filter systems will reduce contaminents about 50%.  Our reverse osmosis water systems use a TFC (thin film composite) membrane in conjunction with three other types of filters to give you the best possible water.  Our systems will remove 97-99% of all contaminents from your water leaving you with pure, safe drinking water.

 4.     Why haven’t I heard of reverse osmosis technology?
Reverse osmosis technology is fairly new. Only over the past 20 years or so and then RO systems were only used in hospitals and laboratories.  The first RO systems were not very efficient, only removing about 75-80% of contaminates.  The Latest technology is used in our systems and we continually test and use the highest quality components available for our systems giving the highest rejection rates.  These systems are built for lasting quality for your continued, convenient use in your home.

 5.     How does the reverse osmosis system work?
The system connects to your cold water supply feeding your faucet under your sink.  The water passes through a sediment filter to remove any dust, rust, and other particles.  The water then passes through a GAC carbon filter removing hundreds of contaminents, chemicals, and bacteria.  The water then passes through a carbon block filter for additional removal chemicals, odors, and bad tastes from your water.  These filters block everything down to 5 microns.  The water then is pushed through the TFC membrane using your own water pressure forcing only the pure water through a high rejection TFC membrane.  The wastewater is sent down your drain under your sink.  The purified water is then stored in a pressurized tank for use when you need it. As water is drawn from the tank, it passes through yet another GAC carbon filter for a final polishing of the water giving you the best tasting water you have ever had.

 6.     I heard that reverse osmosis water systems waste a lot of water?
Reverse osmosis does waste water to produce your pure drinking water.  The extra water wasted is needed to flush the membrane as it is removing contaminates.  This keeps the membrane clean and rinses the contaminates down your drain.  Some systems will waste up to 5-6 gallons to make one gallon of pure water.  Our systems use about 3-4 gallons to make one gallon pure water under normal pressure. Our systems also include an auto shut off valve to stop water waste once the tank is full.  This shuts the water supply off to the system then turns it back on again once water is drawn from the tank.

 7.     How much water will this RO system produce?
The standard 5-stage system comes with a 35 gallon per day membrane.  If the water were used continually, under normal water pressure, the system would produce that much water.  35 gallons a day is usually more than enough for the average family to keep the tank filled quickly for use when needed.  Even if connected to your refrigerator ice and water system.  If you have special requests for different gallon per day outputs, we can customize any unit to your specifications.

 8.     What if I have low water pressure?
You need a water pressure of at least 40 PSI for optimal performance, a max pressure of 100 PSI. If you have less than 40 psi, you will get a lower production rate.  A booster pump can be added to the system bringing the water pressure in the system up to 60-80 psi and giving you the best performance and the highest quality water.  The booster pumps can be 110 or 220v.

 9.     Do I have to change filters?
Yes, the pre-filters need changed every 6 months, and the post filter need changed every 12 months. By changing filters regularly, you protect the membrane making it last 5 years or more.  We send out order forms to our customers every 6 months as reminders of filter changing time.  You can order high quality filters from us at very low prices or they can be purchased from larger hardware stores. They are a standard 10” size.

 10. How do I know if the membrane needs changed?
The membrane will last 5 or more years if the filters are changed regularly.  You can test the membranes performance by doing a conductivity test on the water or using a tds meter.  You should check your water once a year or two years or if a change in production or quality takes place.

 11. Do you have a list of contaminents removed from the water with an RO system?
This is only a partial list of the hundreds of contaminents removed by TFC membranes.  Sodium, Aluminum, Ammonium, Lead, Arsenic, Copper, Mercury, Sulfates, Calcium, Phosphates, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Zinc, Chlorides, Nitrates, Silicates, Cyanide, Sulphide, Bacteria, Potassium, Fluoride, Nickel, Silver, Bicarbonate, Barium, Chromium, plus hundreds of other chemicals, and bacteria’s.

 12. I’m concerned about bacteria in my water?
Our reverse osmosis systems will remove 99% of all bacteria from your water.  If you have a known bacteria problem or need water that would be 100% free of bacteria, you can add a UV sterilizer to the RO system.  This UV lamp treatment is connected in line on the water before it comes out your faucet killing all microbes in the water. This system provides your family with the safest possible drinking water you can have.

 13. I have well water, will this system work for well water?
The 5-stage system is the best solution for well water.  Well water should always be treated and by using one of our 5 stage systems, you will be ensuring your family good quality, safe drinking water at all times. If you need the added safety of UV treatment for wells with bacterial problems the 6-stage system that includes UV treatment is for you.

 14. What kind of warranty or guarantee is on your systems?
All of our residential RO systems come with a 3-year warranty.  If anything would happen to go wrong with the system, we would replace the covered part or the whole system at our option.  The residential units also come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.  If for any reason during the first thirty days, you are not satisfied with the water you are getting from your unit, contact us for a return authorization and your money will be refunded (less $30 restocking fee if system was installed to replace filters, tubing, etc).

 15. Do these RO systems meet NSF guidelines?
Yes, we use only the highest quality components available for manufacturing our systems.  That means we use only NSF certified housings, parts, connectors, tubing, tanks, and filters.  The faucets also are rated lead free.

 16. Do I need a water softener if I use an RO system?
If you have hard water, nothing is better than a water softener for treatment of your whole house water supply to protect your plumbing, clothing and make bathing more pleasant.  The RO system will work great with or without a water softener.  The RO system will remove all water hardness from the water going to your drinking water if you do not have a water softener.  If you do have a water softener, the RO filters and membrane will last longer.  If you have hard water problems, we carry a large line of water softeners at some of the lowest prices you will find.

 17. How easy is this system to install?
These systems come with a complete installation manual, kit and all connectors, tubing, faucet, tank, and all parts needed to install under your sink.  Color-coded tubing and pictures in the manual make installation easy and most people can install them in under 1 hour.  You will need a drill, wrench, and screwdriver and Teflon tape.  If you do not feel comfortable installing this system, a local plumber can install fairly quickly.

 18. Why is the Ron’s Trading Post reverse osmosis water system better than others?
We strive to keep the best components and highest quality parts in all our systems.  We also strive to keep our prices affordable so everyone can enjoy the best water possible. Our goal is customer satisfaction in quality, price, and service.  We will do whatever it takes to bring you the quality water you deserve at a price you can afford.  We also use a GAC carbon filter in the 5-stage unit along with a carbon block instead of just putting two carbon block filters in the unit.  This gives you a higher quality water product.  We guarantee the lowest price on our 4 and 5 stage systems of any other unit of equal quality.  Most of these same systems sell for 2-3 times as much as our regular web price.
